We produce our natural soaps by saponifying vegetable oils using the cold stirring process. This process allows the ingredients used to be processed gently. The glycerine released during the saponification of vegetable oils only remains in the soaps during the cold stirring process. Glycerin is a main component of vegetable oils and has a moisturizing effect on the skin due to its hygroscopic properties. Together with an unsaponified, moisturizing oil excess, this makes cold-stirred natural soaps particularly mild.
As natural soaps, our soaps do not contain any sulfate-based surfactants, such as the skin-irritating sodium lauryl sulfate (sodium lauryl sulfate) or the related sodium lauryl ether sulfate (sodium laureth sulfate), which is often used in soaps and shower gels. Based on numerous reports, it can be assumed that this also has an irritating effect: after discontinuing sodium lauryl ether sulfate and alternatively using natural soap, redness disappears and the complexion improves.
In addition, our soaps do not contain EDTA. This is often used in soaps and shower gels as a complexing agent to soften water. EDTA and its metal complexes are not or only poorly biodegradable in wastewater treatment. In addition, EDTA is ecologically questionable because, in its free form in the environment, it can dissolve heavy metals from the sediment and make them bioavailable. EDTA can now be found in groundwater in concentrations of up to 100 µg/l. We therefore do not use it and use a natural alternative, sodium citrate.
Last but not least, we of course also avoid animal fats and palm oil, which has come under criticism, for the production of which huge areas of tropical rainforest are cut down. Instead, we only process uncritical vegetable oils and butters of the highest quality, from controlled organic cultivation. So our soaps are not only good for us, but also good for our environment. Our handmade natural soaps are 100% natural, vegan, sustainably produced and completely biodegradable. This also includes the packaging: it is made of 100% paper.
